We are looking to appoint suitably enthusiastic and / or experienced individuals as a bank of Invigilators to cover the main examination periods of January, May, June, November and December. These posts are casual contracts with hours and days varying according to needs of the school. Appointed invigilators will be responsible for supervising GCSE examinations under the direction of the Examinations Officer. No experience is necessary as full training will be given, but applicants should have good communication skills and be able to adhere to strict guidelines as set out by the Examination Boards. Appointment subject to Disclosure & Barring Service Check and satisfactory references.

It is a pleasure to see all our learners back in school and the vast majority working extremely hard in their lessons. Learners sitting external exams in the summer have faced unprecedented challenges and disruption, however, we are working hard with our learners to mitigate these challenges and ensure they are well prepared for their exams.

We have recently received communication from Qualifications Wales (Download qw-cc21-04e-lettertolearners-arrangementsfor2022 ) outlining their approach to summer exams; a copy of their letter has been emailed to you and is available on our website. The main points are as follows:

1. Welsh Government, Qualifications Wales and WJEC expect exams to go ahead as planned in the summer. To take into account the lost curriculum time due to the pandemic, the WJEC have made significant changes to each qualification. The qualification changes have been made following a consultation with schools and will enable learners to move on to their next stage of learning or employment. Heads of Department have amended their learning plans to ensure they are teaching the correct content and skills. Qualifications Wales and the WJEC have reassured schools that the grading process will be fair and that they will take into account the disruption experienced by learners.

2. If Covid cases continue to rise, and exam series are cancelled, there is a contingency plan in place. Schools will be asked to award grades based on the work completed by learners during their qualification. We await further guidance from Qualifications Wales but the evidence used might include:

• Summative Assessments, APPs and mock exams completed during the qualification.

• Completed Non-Examined Assessments / coursework.

• Classwork and homework completed during the qualification.

It is therefore essential that all our learners try their very best as teachers can only award grades that can be validated by work completed by our pupils and students. Now is the time for our learners to work harder than ever before and ensure their teachers are provided with enough evidence to award top grades if exams are cancelled.

Dear parents and carers,

We are writing in relation to the recent statement that came out from the Welsh Government who are changing their guidance about household contacts. From Monday 11th October, the Welsh Government are advising that if anyone in your household tests positive for Covid-19, as well as undertaking PCR testing on day 2 and day 8, that young people should also use the Lateral Flow Devices to test every day for 7 days. This should start on the day a household contact is confirmed as positive from either a lateral flow device or a PCR test result.

Lateral flow device testing kits continue to be available through school for the routine twice weekly testing. Should anyone require further test kits for the purposes of testing due to being a household contact, please contact your year team.

It is great to have the learners back in school and a delight to see them engaged in their learning. Unfortunately, Covid-19 is still prevalent within our community. I would like to reassure everyone that we have a robust risk assessment in place and we are working closely with DCC, Public Health Wales and TTP to minimise the impact of Covid.

Today, Denbighshire County Council and Public Health Wales have categorised all secondary schools in Denbighshire as amber due to the prevalence of Covid in our community. This means we must remain cautious as a community and follow strict rules to minimise the transmission of Covid. Prestatyn High was already operating under the regulations required for an amber school due to the few but regular cases we have had in school. We are aware of the growing number of cases within the community and we continue to do everything we can to protect all pupils and staff.

What measures have we taken and will continue to take:

• An expectation for all staff and learners to wear face masks in communal areas, such as corridors and diner.

• Where possible, social distancing. • Good hand and respiratory hygiene.

• At present, there is no expectation for staff and learners to wear face masks in classrooms.

• An expectation for staff and learners to continue to test twice weekly using the Lateral Flow Devices.

• Continue to engage with TTP.

We respectfully ask all parents and carers to support the school in our efforts to keep everyone as safe as possible. Please could you remind your son / daughter to bring a face mask to school every day, continue to LFD test, and engage in Covid friendly routines inside and outside of school.
