The course is split into four units which cover many different areas. Wales, the Senedd and the workings of devolution are explored in one unit. Human rights, your role and responsibility as a citizen in another. In year 13 we look at the evolution and structure of different political ideas, from conservatism to liberalism. The final unit looks at the government of America and whether it is a model of democracy. You will get the chance to study the presidency, Congress and the role of the Supreme Court in the running of this great nation.

Progression routes:The Government and Politics course encourages you to look at the world and what’s going on in a fair and balanced way. It encourages you to form opinions based on the facts and to argue your case with clarity and conviction. The course offers a pathway into politics, philosophy and economics and several students have gone on to study international politics at university.
Assessment Unit 1 and 2 are examined in the summer of year 12. Unit 3 and 4 in year 13.
