Uniformed Protective Services Sector - Public Services

The uniformed protective services are defined as armed services, police, fire and rescue service and custodial services. There are many influences on the behaviour of those working in the uniformed protective services. You will examine a range of theories that underpin behaviour and how they are applied in the uniformed protective services. You will explore how authority is used to benefit both the individual and society, based on key types of authority in the public sector, making connections between theory and practice.
You will understand the ability to effectively lead and support is crucial in the uniformed protective services. When all members of a team understand their role, feel supported and know what is expected of them, an effective team can achieve its objectives. Teamwork and effective communication are embedded in the uniformed protective services.
You will have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities where you will be able to develop skills in specific activities and review your performance against group and personal expectations. You will develop your understanding of the skills needed to participate in outdoor activities.
You will study the theories of the causes of criminal behaviour and any other contributory factors that may lead to criminality and antisocial behaviour. You will also explore the various methods of crime prevention in England and Wales. You will investigate the various sets of crime statistics that explain the extent of crime in England and Wales, and you will look at the impact of crime on society, exploring concepts such as ‘fear of crime’ and how this may manifest itself in both individuals and communities.
Entry requirements 5 A-C GRADES
Progression routes:BTEC National qualification, learners can progress to higher education in a range of disciplines, for example: • BA (Hons) in Criminology, if taken alongside A Levels including Psychology and Sociology • BA (Hons) in Social Policy, if taken alongside A Levels including Sociology and Psychology • BA (Hons) in Politics, if taken alongside A Levels including Politics and History • BSc (Hons) in Forensic Science, if taken alongside the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Applied Science • LLB (Hons) in Law, if taken alongside A Levels in History and Law. Career progression routes on completion of the course include the uniformed protective services such as armed services, Ambulance Police, Fire and Rescue service and probation and custodial services.
