Course Content:
An amazing opportunity to achieve a higher grade (A*-C) GCSE with the lessons being 50% practical cookery. The practical cookery lessons will focus on gaining skills in preparing, cooking and presenting dishes. Skills will be a focus of the course. The students will also learn about food hygiene and safety. The students will learn about the hospitality and catering industry and the different parts of it such as job roles, customer needs and legislations.
How you will learn:
Half the lessons with be 'practical-based with cooking dishes and the other half will be theory based. This means you will usually cook once a week and do theory once a week.
How you will be assessed:
By internally assessed coursework 60%, by externally assessed exam 40%. There are 2 units. The first unit studied is internally assessed coursework focusing on cooking skills, menu planning, nutritional needs and evaluating using a given scenario. The second unit studied is externally assessed with a 80 minute exam, which is all about the hospitality industry, how it works and health, safety and hygiene.

Future Career Opportunities: Hospitality is one of the biggest employers locally and around the world. Having a qualification in Hospitality can make you extremely employable. Employment in hospitality and catering ranges from waiting staff, receptionists and catering assistants to chefs, hotel and bar managers and food technologists working for supermarket chains. Employment in events ranges from crowd control, event sales and event branding to event management and organisation.
