Reporting Absences

Thank you for your continued support in helping us ensure the best possible attendance for all pupils. We
expect all children to attend school every day, that they are able to, although we do understand that there
may be times when children are unwell or unable to attend school, and we appreciate your cooperation in
keeping us informed when this happens.

If, for any reason, your child is not able to attend school, please call or email us.
When reporting a pupil's absence, please leave an answerphone message as early as possible on the day of
absence, using option 1. Please leave the pupils name, year, reason for absence and expected return date.
Or alternatively, please email us at- info@prestatynhigh.co.uk.

We will not accept absence reports unless they come from a registered email address held by the school.
No third-party apps (e.g., Study Bugs) are accepted for absence reporting at this time.

Yours faithfully

Mrs C Turner
Deputy Headteacher

Attendance – Year 11 Pupils

Dear Parents,

As we move into the final weeks before the start of the external GCSE examinations, I would like to take this
opportunity to highlight just how important it is that Year 11 pupils are in school every day from now on.
This period is one of the most crucial points in a pupil’s secondary education. Lessons are now highly focused on
consolidation, exam preparation, revision techniques and addressing specific gaps in knowledge. Every lesson
counts, and missing even a single day of school can result in lost learning time that is very difficult to catch up on
independently.

Being absent from school at this stage means missing:

  • Final explanations and clarification of key exam topics
  • Opportunities to practise exam questions with teacher guidance
  • Targeted support based on recent assessments and mock exams
  • Structured revision that is carefully planned to maximise pupil success

While we recognise that illness cannot always be avoided, we strongly encourage pupils and families to ensure that
time off school is kept to an absolute minimum. Where pupils attend consistently, they are far better prepared,
more confident, and better able to manage the demands and pressures of the exam period.
Good attendance also helps pupils maintain routine, organisation and motivation — all of which are essential as
exams approach. Turning up every day is one of the simplest but most effective ways pupils can improve their
outcomes and give themselves the best possible chance of success.

We ask for your continued support in reinforcing the message that attendance now really does matter. Our staff
remain fully committed to supporting every Year 11 pupil, and being present in school is key to enabling us to do this
effectively. Prom and shirt signing events will soon be coming up and absences could contribute towards pupils
missing these events.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation at this important time. If there are any concerns or issues
affecting attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school so that we can offer support.

Yours faithfully,
Mrs C Turner
Deputy Headteacher

Headteacher Appointment

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to share some important and exciting news regarding the appointment of the new
headteacher of our amazing school. Following a thorough recruitment process, the Governing
Body is pleased to announce the appointment of Claire Turner as our new headteacher, effective
from the start of the next academic year, the first female to hold this post permanently.

Claire, our current deputy headteacher, brings a wealth of experience in education, strong
leadership skills, and a clear vision for continuing to build on the strengths of our school.
Throughout the selection process, she impressed us with her commitment to ensuring that every
child thrives, both academically and personally, within a supportive and ambitious school
community.

Over the coming weeks, Claire will be working closely with Neil Foley the current headteacher, all
staff, governors, and pupils to ensure a smooth transition. There will be opportunities for parents
and carers to meet the new headteacher early in the new academic year. We will share more
details about this later in the year.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Neil Foley for the hard
work, effort and amazing progress the school has made over the last ten years. The school is in a
very good position for the new headteacher to build even greater successes in the future.
We look forward to September and embarking on our next chapter together as a school
community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Lindsay Davenport
Chair of Governors
On behalf of the Governing Body

Meningitis and sepsis information

At this time there are no suspected or confirmed cases of meningitis in North Wales or elsewhere in Wales linked to the outbreak in Kent.
However it has been recommended that young people, parents, families and staff familiarise themselves with the signs and symptoms of meningitis and sepsis.
These conditions can progress rapidly from mild symptoms to severe illness. Babies, young children, teenagers and young adults (especially those in close-contact settings like colleges and universities) are at higher risk.
