Letter to Parents/Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all pupils and parents for their continued
support this half term. We take great pride in the appearance of our pupils, most recently we have allowed pupils to wear their
coats in the school building as they move between lessons, due to the cold temperatures. However, when we return to school after half term we will be expecting all pupils to remove their coats as they enter the building and when they move from lesson to lesson. All pupils will need to be in full uniform including blazers. This will be reviewed if the temperature changes.
Thank you for your support and have a restful half term.
Best wishes,
PJ Hill

Awards Evening

Dear Parent/Carer,

It is with great pleasure that I am writing to inform you that our amazing awards evening is back again on the 9th April, 2024.
The evening will highlight the achievements of our wonderful pupils who work hard day in day out to achieve their potential. Nominations from departments and Heads of Year will take place during the coming half term, so there is plenty of opportunity for your son/daughter to work hard over the next few weeks and be recognised for their achievements.

Awards are handed out for engagement and effort as well as going above and beyond for the school or the community. If you know of a pupil who works above and beyond for the good of the community of Prestatyn, or the wider area and would like to nominate them for the community award we would love to hear from you. Please contact me at the school by the 23rd February 2024.

This event is sure to be one of the highlights of the school year. Tickets will be allocated for those people who have been shortlisted for awards closer to the time and further details will be available then.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs PJ Hill
Assistant Headteacher

Barcelona Trip

Dear parent/guardian,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you about an exciting upcoming opportunity for our students to travel to Barcelona from the 11th to the 14th of July. This trip promises to be a truly memorable experience, offering students the chance to deepen their understanding of Spanish culture and language.

We have made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the students' safety and comfort throughout the duration of the trip. Our journey will commence with a coach departing from Prestatyn High School, followed by flights from Liverpool. Upon arrival in Barcelona, we will be staying at the Hotel Tossa Beach-Center, which offers excellent accommodations.

The itinerary for the trip is packed with exciting and educational activities. Students will have the chance to explore the Gothic Quarter, visit Port Vell, and have an external viewing of La Sagrada Familia. We will also be embarking on a town trail in Tossa de Mar, visiting the popular Las Ramblas Shopping Area, and experiencing the exhilaration of Waterworld. Additionally, we will be exploring the vibrant La Boqueira Market, giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture.

To ensure parents' peace of mind, we will provide live trip tracking throughout the trip. Moreover, each student will be allowed one piece of checked-in hold luggage per person for their belongings. All meals are included, except for en route meals.

The total cost for this trip is £820, which includes flights, transportation within the UK and Spain, entry fees to attractions, meals, and insurance. To secure a place for your child, a deposit of £200 is due by the 24th of January. We understand that this may be a significant payment, so we are happy to arrange instalments for your convenience for the rest of the cost. Please note that a valid passport will be required for each student to participate in this trip.

We strongly believe that this Barcelona trip offers a perfect opportunity for our students to not only broaden their horizons but also enhance their understanding of Spanish culture and language. We are confident that they will return with memories that will last a lifetime.

If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this trip, please do not hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to providing our students with this incredible educational experience.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs V. Vick

Head of MFL

Under no circumstances will we take any pupils with poor behaviour.  Furthermore we reserve the right to remove anyone from the trip should there be any occasions of unacceptable/irresponsible   behaviour which we deem serious enough to justify such a measure.  This will result in a loss of money for the parents/guardians dependent upon monies paid to the travel company at the point of exclusion from the trip.

Parent Governor – Nomination

We currently have a vacancy on the School’s Governing Body for a position as Parent Governor as a result of one of our existing parent governors resigning due to other commitments. Nomination papers will be sent home with pupils for the position and if you are interested in standing or inviting another parent to stand please ensure the nomination paper is fully completed and returned to (Mrs. Liz Thomas, Clerk of Governors) by 1.00pm on Thursday 25th January 2024.
The role of Governor can be both demanding and interesting and I would be happy to discuss this with anyone who would like further information.

National Youth Theatre of Wales – workshops

National Youth Theatre of Wales are coming to Prestatyn High to hold a free audition workshop for any young people in Years 11 – 13 who want to explore the possibilities of a future in the theatre a little more.
The workshop will be hosted by school on 15th January between 13:00 and 15:00. Young people can sign up to participate at the Year 11 room, with Miss Southhall or with Ms Jocobsen in the Sixth Form Centre.
